Celebrating the New Millennium
1998 (48 cm x 48cm) (19" x 19") This quilt was entered into the Madeira "Fireworks for the New Millennium" contest in Germany. There were 1500 entries from all over the world, 51 were chosen to tour throughout the world until the end of 2000. The quilts were exhibited at Houston in 2000. I was placed third and received a Pfaff sewing and embroidery machine as my prize. The background of this quilt is a colourwash of cotton and synthetic starry type fabrics. It has been machine pieced, machine embroidered and quilted using cotton, rayon and lurex threads. Some surface stitchery and beading was done by hand. This embroidered quilt depicts the exciting future for all the children of the world. The two silhouette children watching the fireworks display, from the safety of their home, are our hopes for the future.
