Peeking Pukekos
2001 ( 117 cms x 117cms) (46" x 46") Using a New Zealand printed fabric of Pukekos I designed an original block to represent the swamp and ferns where these swamp hens live. I overdyed part of the fabric to make it harmonize with the background. The two large birds are separate and heavily machine embroidered. The red prairie points in the background are pretend pukekos, peeking, as they can be shy as well as cheeky birds. The outside border has appliqued bugs, beetles and butterflies the other residents of the swamp.
